Decarbonisation Accelerated is a two-year plan by Resources Centre of Excellence (RCOE) and Greater Whitsunday Alliance (GW3), that aims to support, educate, and motivate businesses and industries to start their decarbonisation journey.

We believe that by doing this, we can shape a future where there’s less impact on the environment. Specifically, in the Greater Whitsunday region, we see a chance to take advantage of this movement because of the area’s strong economy and businesses that can adapt to these changes.

Every individual and organisation bear a responsibility to contribute towards this shared goal of global decarbonisation. Increasingly, businesses are compelled to showcase tangible evidence of their efforts towards decarbonisation. However, for our region, decarbonisation does not signify the abandonment of our coal industry. Renowned for producing the highest quality metallurgical coal globally, our region has an indispensable role in steel production – a sector currently unable to decarbonise without coal. Central to our approach is the principle that coal mining and decarbonisation can coexist.

We aspire for our region to adopt a proactive stance in reducing carbon emissions while simultaneously cultivating a diversified economic landscape conducive to long-term social and economic prosperity.
