Decarbonisation Accelerated XR Pitch Challenge

Decarbonisation Accelerated XR Pitch Challenge

The Queensland XR Hub is excited to bring you the Decarbonisation Accelerated XR Pitch Challenge, in partnership with the Resources Centre of Excellence, GW3 and Advance Queensland.

This event will bring together the Queensland Extended Reality (XR) ecosystem with stakeholders from across the mining and METS (Mining Equipment, Technology and Services) industry as they pitch solutions to facilitate the acceleration of decarbonisation in this sector in response to the Problem Statement.

Decarbonisation Accelerated
The Australian resources sector has been the backbone for global and domestic energy production for many decades. As many global mining companies begin to take the lead on lowering their carbon emissions, the mining supply chain has an opportunity to proactively embrace the changes required to lower carbon outputs and secure new business opportunities driven by decarbonisation.

To pursue this opportunity, Greater Whitsunday Alliance (GW3) and Resources Centre of Excellence (RCOE), along with other key regional partners, have come together to form the Decarbonisation Accelerated program. The program will guide the Queensland region to secure traditional industries, power new opportunities and how decarbonisation and diversification will be supported whilst growing the economy.

The XR Challenge
How can XR or other immersive technologies be utilised to communicate to individuals and businesses involved in METS about how they can reduce their carbon outputs and how this contributes to the broader decarbonisation and diversification vision for the region?

Join us for an afternoon of XR demonstrations, networking, and to learn how these innovations will help propel us into the future of sustainable mining.

From VRishing to Fake Overlays: Are your XR products, services and processes safe from harm?

  • The Open Innovation and Collaboration Space, The Precinct (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Session Information

The University of Qld XR cybersecurity project explores the breadth and scope of novel and augmented attack scenarios in extended reality technologies and highly immersive, social platforms. Additionally, the project aims to develop an attack testbed and intervention tools to visualise risky interactions and avatars to users to support users in XR.

The workshop gives industry the opportunity to document the current risks, challenges and obstacles you are facing in developing and utilising XR. The roundtable discussions will collect risk and attack scenarios from industry and identify what challenges developers face in securing their XR products and B2B and internal processes relating to IP protection, securing devices and authorisation, psychological harms, social engineering attacks (VRishing etc), and cyberliteracy. In gathering this data, we aim to support local industry by supplying you with security tools that can be used when testing and deploying XR technologies in (and outside) the workplace across immersive live events, virtual product prototyping, virtual production, immersive walk-throughs, games, education, health, banking and financial services, and other applications.

The XR Cybersecurity project is led by Dr Mashhuda Glencross at the University of Qld and supported by leading researchers across cybersecurity, XR technologies, psychology and Human-Computer Interaction at UQ, the University College London and Royal Holloway University of London.

XR and Sport Showcase

The popularity of AR (Augmented Reality), VR (Virtual Reality) and XR (Extended Reality) technologies are on the rise. By 2023, the market for these technologies is expected to reach $18 billion.

But what does this mean for sport, specifically high-performance sport? With Brisbane announced as the host of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, can Australia pinpoint where these technologies might best add value to the athletes representing Australia?

In a landmark endeavour, the AIS and QAS have co-funded a Post-Doctoral student through QUT to explore where high-performance sport might invest in these technologies to develop a competitive advantage for Australian athletes.

You are invited to engage, learn and discuss where the opportunities might lie in this presentation presented by the AIS and the Queensland XR Hub.

As per Qld Government guidelines, from 17 December 2021, all event attendees must show proof of a double COVID-19 vaccination (or valid exemption) on arrival at the event.
